YOU'RE NOT ALONE!
What is Co-Parenthood?
The Co-Parenthood program helps families work toward better connection with children, and sometimes restoration, with the support of Carers who believe families should stay together. These Carers are willing to step in, lend a hand and help out during tough situations like this one.
The Stages Of Co-Parenthood
A new model of foster care where parents and carers work together toward restoration.
Parents and Carers are co-parents while kids are in care.
Finding Great Co-Parents
We find and train Co-parent Carers who are non-judgemental and committed to supporting whole families. We carefully link up families that make both sides feel at ease.
Knowing Your Kids Are In Safe Hands
You know your children better than anyone else. We want to hear about what’s important to you and your kids during this time. You can learn more about the Carers when you want to.
Responsibility and time spent is slowly transitioned to Parents, with help from Carers when needed.
Getting To Know Each Other
We’ll take it slow. Get to know Carers through writing, over the phone, then in neutral spaces and always where and when both families feel comfortable.
After permanency, the relationship continues as both families wish. In some cases they might be ‘extended family,’ a friend, or neighbour with helpful advice.
Find The Services You Need
“I see a lot of families fall through the gaps because they don’t have any family support and they just don't know what to do or where to turn to. And because they don’t get that support, or people to advocate for them, they just give up...not because they want to, but because they can't see any way through.”
The reality is that most of us communicate the same way that we grew up. That communication style becomes our normal way of dealing with issues, our blueprint for communication. It’s what we know and pass on to our own children. We either become our childhood or we make a conscious choice to change it.
